Modern metro– steel, colours and vanishing infrastructure 12.–19.06.2025

A temporary exhibition looking at the vanishing Helsinki metro architecture. Scale model pieces reflected the constructivist form and fragility of Herttoniemi metrostation, while the postcard photographs more broadly depicted original elements of the 1980s metro. The publication brings together parts of the exhibition and included texts by interior architect Jussi Laine, architect and doctoral researcher Merete Kemppainen, and architect Olli Nieminen. Graphic design by Kaarina Tammisto. The magazine and postcards were easy to take along during the exhibition.

Scale model pieces, photographs, exhibition production and design by Karita Rytivaara. Funding the Arts Promotion Centre Finland and the Finnish Cultural Foundation.

Rakas vihattu betoni – Brutalismi Suomessa 17.9.2023–7.1.2024

Two scale model pieces were part of a larger exhibition that focused especially on architectural models and photographs. The exhibition was based on the upcoming book project Brutalism in Finland by non-fiction writer and Bryggman Institute representative Mikko Laaksonen.

Betoniunelmia – ja muita näkymiä 1970-luvun arkkitehtuuriin 17.05.–15.10.2023

Stripped Frame (with architect Kaisa Karvinen) was part of the Concrete Dreams exhibition at the Museum of Finnish Architecture, which explored the many layers of 1970s architecture in Finland. The scale model of Espoo City Hall (made by Karita Rytivaara) and a video piece were curated to part of this exhibition.

Riisuttu runko Stripped Frame 9.–15.9.2022

Stripped Frame examined the anatomy of disappearing 1960s and 70s buildings, their frames, and the process of demolition by using scale models and photographs. Everyday modern buildings including schools, office buildings, factories, health care centers, and shopping malls are being demolished at an accelerating pace. We devoted time and attention to the discussions, events, materials, and architecture often hidden behind demolition fencing. Also, the exhibition location, Merihaka P1 parking house, is threatened to be demolished.

Stripped Frame is a study and exhibition project by Karita Rytivaara and Kaisa Karvinen. Photographs and exhibition design was done together.  Scale models made by Karita Rytivaara. Funding the Kone Foundation.
